In my happy place – my garden!

Hello and welcome to my pest control blog! My name is Annie, and my knowledge of pests was initially an unintended one that over the years has lead me to become what my friends call an “expert”. I still just call myself an enthusiast though!

I live in the suburbs of Ohio, and pests have been a big problem for me ever since I moved into my first home.

My earliest encounter with a ‘pest’ was about 10 years ago when a beautiful Cape Figwort (Phygelius) plant in my garden was decimated by an army of slugs. It happened so quickly I didn’t have a chance to put any pest control methods into action or realize what the actual problem was.

One challenge I had was identifying the source of the problem, which was confusing at first because slug eggs look similar to seeds or buds on leaves. Then when trying to identify the pest, there are so many different egg types that they could have been. By the process of elimination, and consulting with a neighbor who was an experienced gardener, we finally narrowed it down to slugs.

Here’s how my Cape Figwort ended up, a sorry sight indeed!

Here are the slug eggs that caused all the damage, and even one of the pests in action that has just hatched and is having its first meal of many!

I had more of the same species plant in my garden at the time that was doing fine, so the slugs must have had a particular gripe with this one.

This experience lead me on a journey to understand these slimy creatures, and find an effective way to prevent them from returning.

I read books, scoured the internet and spoke to other avid gardeners in an attempt to find a solution that would work for me.

I tried many different methods, some with success and some without, but I never stopped trying until I found something that worked.

This sparked a strange interest in me to look into other pests and figure out how to get rid of them too. From cockroaches in your home to aphids on your roses, I have studied hundreds of books and watched thousands of videos to build the experience needed to tackle any pest problem.

Over the years I have become quite good at pest control, and have even been called upon by friends and family to help them with their own problems.

I am always happy to help, and love nothing more than sharing my knowledge so that others can benefit from it too.

Pest control can be a difficult and time-consuming task, but it doesn’t have to be! With a little knowledge and the right tools, you can get rid of pests for good.

I created this blog to share my knowledge and help others who are struggling with pests in their own homes and gardens. I’ll be posting new articles and tips on a regular basis, so be sure to check back often!
